Despite a standout performance from Kevin Pietersen, the Melbourne Stars couldn’t stop a roaring Sydney Thunder outfit from claiming the Big Bash League title.  The match came down to the final over, with the Thunder reaching the target of 177 with three balls and three wickets to spare.

The pulsating MCG crowd were electric throughout the contest and provided an awesome atmosphere to cap off the Big Bash season in emphatic fashion.

Usman Khawaja looked unstoppable at the top of the order, but was eventually removed by Stars captain David Hussey for 70.

Four proud Spartan ambassadors, Aiden Blizzard, Gurinder Sandhu, Ahillen Beadle and Andrew McDonald, were members of the victorious Thunder squad this season and were integral in securing the Thunder’s maiden title, with Aiden striking 16 runs off just 7 balls in the Final.

The Stars were not without their own standout performers, and kept pressure on the Thunder throughout the match.

Pietersen struck 5 sixes in his brilliant knock of 74, providing the crowd with plenty of catching practice. Adam Zampa bowled some excellent spells and removed the dangerous veteran Jacques Kallis and Thunder captain Mike Hussey.

As Official Equipment Suppliers, Spartan is proud to have supported the Melbourne Stars throughout their fantastic season, and congratulate them on all that they have achieved this year. Spartan also congratulates Aiden, Gurinder, Andrew and Ahillen on their successful season as part of the Thunder squad.
