After a whirlwind season where we have seen gold bats and huge hits, the Big Bash League’s fifth season has reached the do-or-die knockout stages. Only four teams remain in what is set to be the closest finals series yet.
The Adelaide Strikers will be hosting the first semi-final against the Sydney Thunder on Thursday while the Melbourne Stars will play the Perth Scorchers in the second semi-final on Friday.
This will be a special game for the Thunder, as they have never played in a BBL semi-final. The Thunder look set to have Spartan’s own Aiden Blizzard (with his fluorescent bat) feature in the batting line-up. Right-arm Thunder quick Gurinder Sandhu could also be facing off against the first-placed Strikers, who have only lost one game this season. The Adelaide Oval will be a tough test for the Thunder, but they will be confident after defeating the Strikers earlier this season.
Friday’s semi-final is set for a blockbuster at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Scorchers and Stars have qualified for all previous BBL semi-finals and are set to draw a huge crowd. The Stars have hit form at the right time and as Official Partners, Spartan is proud to support the Stars on its BBL05 journey.
The inaugural semi-finals of the Women’s Big Bash League will also be played at the Adelaide Oval and Melbourne Cricket Ground, preceding the male competitions of the evening.
The Sydney Thunder will play the Perth Scorchers at 2.10pm in Adelaide while the Hobart Hurricanes come up against the Sydney Sixers at 2.40pm in Melbourne.
So make sure you don’t miss any Big Bash League action this week! It’s set to be an explosive Finals series.
