After India’s fifth consecutive win in this year’s World Cup with their clinical defeat of Ireland on Tuedsay, MS Dhoni has surpassed Indian cricketing great Sourav Ganguly’s consecutive World Cup win streak with nine wins in a row. Dhoni’s win streak as captain started with a victory over the West Indies during India’s World Cup winning campaign in India in the 2011 .
With this latest victory, Dhoni has also surpassed India’s 1983 World Cup winning captin Kapil Dev with the most total World Cup victories as an Indian captain with 12. The humble Indian skipper downplayed his personal achievements saying “it’s not about milestones. It’s about India winning and we want to take this forward”.
Dhoni has been more of a vocal leader during this years tournament and his teammates have responded. His communication from behind the stumps has been excellent and every decision he has made with his field and bowlers has paid off so far.
Whilst not entering the tournament as favorites, Dhoni’s Indian team has been nothing short of impressive and will look to continue their dominant form in their final pool match against Zimbabwe in Auckland on Saturday. India has already secured their place in the Quarterfinals where they will face Bangladesh in Melbourne on the 19th.
