With IPL 8 underway and the Chennai Super Kings opening match today, we wanted to take a quick look back at the successful IPL career of Super King’s captain, MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni’s IPL career started with a bang, being picked up in the inaugural IPL player action for a staggering 1.5 million US dollars making him the highest paid player in the tournament at the time. In the IPL’s first tournament in 2008 Dhoni would lead his team all the way into the finals, only to be defeated by a painstaking 3 wickets at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals. Despite the loss Dhoni had an impressive tournament, smashing 38 4s and 15 6s on his way to scoring 2 half centuries at an average of 41.40 over the 14 matches.
Dhoni has seemed to only improve and become more aggressive at the crease as the years roll by. In his last two IPL campaigns, Dhoni has hit over 20 4s and 20 6s and has averaged a staggering 58.05 runs per match.
Under Dhoni’s captincy the Chennai Super Kings have been the most successful franchise in IPL history. The Chennai Super Kings have finished in the top 4 in every tournament and been to the IPL finals 5 times winning back to back titles in 2010 and 2011. With the heartbreaking 24 run defeat at the hands of the Kings XI Punjab in last years semi final. Dhoni and the Channai Super Kings will be fired up and ready for a shot at their 3rd IPL title.
