MITCHELL Johnson’s bowling was so flat before the 2010 Ashes Test in Perth that Australia’s coaching staff placed a small trampoline at the bowlers’ end of the WACA Ground nets. Johnson was ordered to sprint through his normal run-up before taking a flying leap from the trampoline to reacquaint himself with the hang time required to get the most from his slingshot action.

Johnson returns to the WACA Ground tomorrow night without anybody feeling the need to fix him up. Someone needs to fix Steve Smith’s finger after Johnson struck him a painful blow on one of the Perthquake practice pitches yesterday…
