Michael Clarke has put a smile on the faces of some Blue Mountains bushfire victims by donating cricket gear to the Springwood Cricket Club.
Spartan Sports and the Aussie captain put together two large kitbags to donate to the club after the devastation caused by the recent bushfires has left the club without any gear.
They were handed over before the second day’s play of the NSW Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at Blacktown, just 40km from where fierce fires swept through Springwood and the surrounding districts a fortnight ago.
Nine families directly involved with the club lost everything when their homes were destroyed according to vice-president and junior co-ordinator Matt Rogers.
“The people who lost everything obviously lost their individual kits but we also had club houses get damaged and coaches who had kits lost them,” Rogers said.
“The generosity has been fantastic from the greater cricket community, it’s been awesome.
The Saturday after the fires went through all local cricket was cancelled by the Penrith-based association but is hoped all will be back to normal soon.
