Now that the 2015 Cricket World Cup has concluded, here’s a look at how our Spartan champions performed.
Tallying an impressive total of 967 total runs for the tournament the Spartan ambassadors were anchored by heavy hitter Chris Gayle.
The only Spartan century of the tournament came from Gayle when he came up with the second highest individual ODI score with 215. Hitting a record 16 6’s on his way to this astonishing achievement, Gayle once again proved that he is an absolute force to be reckoned with at the crease.
Daniel Vettori and Mitchell Johnson both had solid tournaments with the ball. Johnson got off to a slow start but peaked at the right time taking a team leading 3 wickets in the final against New Zealand. Both Johnson and Vettori tallied 15 wickets a piece in the tournament and were both able to cause a stir with the bat, each hitting a six.
Overall, Chris Gayle was the number 1 Spartan batsman, hitting the most 6s and having the second highest individual score of the tournament. However without a doubt the greatest Spartan triumph of the World Cup was Michael Clarke – captaining Australia to claim the world cup with a magnificent 74 in his final ODI appearance for his country.
